Child Abuse and Neglect by Town and Age Cohort presents the number of reported cases of child abuse or neglect.
Age Range,Allegation Type,Report Status,Measure Type,Variable
Abuse is a non-accidental injury to a child which, regardless of motive, is inflicted or allowed to be inflicted by the person responsible for the child's care. Neglect is the failure, whether intentional or not, of the person responsible for the child's care to provide and maintain adequate food, clothing, medical care, supervision, and/or education. This data is subsettable by age range of child, type of allegation, and status of the report. Reports of abuse and neglect may be pending (an accepted allegation before investigation), substantiated (an investigated report where neglect or abuse occurred), non-substantiated (an investigated report where neglect or abuse did not occur), or referred to Family Assessment Response (not subject to investigation). Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF) collects and CTdata.org carries annual data. DCF also publishes town-level data online in town reports.

Towns and places with less than 10 substantiated cases in any category have their values suppressed to minimize the risk of revealing protected information that could lead to personal identification of individual children. Suppressed values are indicated by an * in the table and -9999 in the raw data.
