For Crude Rate, total population. For AAMR, calculations are provided by the publisher and are more complex.

Lung cancer forms in tissues of the lung, usually in the cells lining air passages. Deaths with ICD-10 code C34 as the underlying cause of death are recorded as lung cancer deaths. The age-adjusted mortality rate (AAMR) controls for the impact of different age structures in order to better evaluate risk levels that are independent of the age composition of the population. Connecticut Department of Public Health collects data annually. CTdata.org carries five year aggregations of annual data.

Health Outcomes

To calculate the crude death rate, the number of lung cancer deaths is divided by the total population and multiplied by 100,000. AAMR is a mortality rate that has been statistically modified to remove the effect on mortality rates of different age distributions in different populations.
